Microsoft Teams: Signing In and Out

Overview

This article explains how to sign in to Microsoft Teams using either the web version or desktop application, and how to sign out securely when you're finished.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A Northwood Tech account.
  • Access to Microsoft Teams.
  • A supported web browser or the Microsoft Teams desktop application.
  • An internet connection.

Before You Begin

You can access Microsoft Teams through MyCampus using a web browser or by installing the Microsoft Teams desktop application. Both options provide access to your chats, meetings, files, and collaboration tools.

💡 Tip: If you're using a shared or public computer, always sign out of Microsoft Teams when you're finished to help protect your account.

Instructions

Sign In to Microsoft Teams (Web)

Access Microsoft Teams through MyCampus without installing the desktop application.

  1. Open your preferred web browser.
  2. Navigate to MyCampus.
  3. Sign in using your Northwood Tech account.
  4. Click the App Launcher (navigation menu) in the upper-left corner.
  5. Click Teams.
    • If you don't see Teams, use the search box to locate it.
  6. Microsoft Teams opens in your web browser and automatically signs you in.
📝 Note: Microsoft Teams is supported in current versions of Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and other supported web browsers.

Sign In to Microsoft Teams (Desktop App)

Use the desktop application for the full Microsoft Teams experience.

  1. Click the Start menu and search for Microsoft Teams.
  2. Click Microsoft Teams to open the application.
  3. Click Sign In.
  4. Enter your Northwood Tech email address.
    • Example Student Email: jstudent5678@northwoodtech.edu
    • Example Employee Email: joe.employee@northwoodtech.edu
  5. Click Next.
  6. Enter your MyCampus password.
  7. Click Sign In.
  8. When prompted to stay signed in to all Microsoft apps:
    • Click No, this app only if you only want to sign in to Microsoft Teams on the device you're using.
⚠️ Important: Carefully review the information before choosing to stay signed in to all Microsoft applications, especially if you're using a shared or public computer.

Sign Out of Microsoft Teams

Sign out of Microsoft Teams to help protect your account, especially when using a shared computer.

  1. Open Microsoft Teams.
  2. Click your profile picture.
  3. Click Sign out.
  4. Click Sign out again to confirm.
⭐ Best Practice: Always sign out of Microsoft Teams when using a public or shared device.

Troubleshooting

I can't sign in to Microsoft Teams

  • Verify you're using your Northwood Tech email address.
  • Confirm you're entering your current MyCampus password.
  • Verify your internet connection.
  • Restart Microsoft Teams and try again.

Microsoft Teams won't open

  • Restart your computer.
  • Verify Microsoft Teams is installed.
  • Install any available Microsoft Teams updates.
  • If necessary, reinstall Microsoft Teams.

I can't access Teams in MyCampus

  • Verify you've successfully signed in to MyCampus.
  • Use the search box to search for Teams.
  • Refresh your browser and try again.

I'm having issues with the web version of Teams

  • Try using an Incognito or Private Browsing window.
  • If this resolves the issue, clear your browser's cache and cookies.
  • Try a different supported web browser.

I'm still experiencing issues

  • Install any available Windows and Microsoft Teams updates.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Submit a Service Desk ticket if the issue persists.
