Overview
Before accessing Northwood Tech systems and applications, new students and employees must complete the initial account setup process.
During setup, you'll create your Northwood Tech password and register for multi-factor authentication (MFA) using Microsoft Authenticator.
This article explains how to complete the initial account setup and what to do if you encounter problems during the process.
Key Information
- Use a desktop or laptop computer to complete the initial account setup whenever possible.
- Have your mobile device available to complete the MFA setup.
- Your default password is based on your name and college ID.
- Your new password must be at least 13 characters long.
- You must complete MFA setup before accessing Northwood Tech applications that require MFA.
⭐ Important: Complete all account setup steps, including multi-factor authentication (MFA), before attempting to access Northwood Tech applications such as MyCampus, Microsoft 365, or other campus systems.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, you'll need:
- Active student or employee status
- Access to the personal email account used during registration or hiring
- Your Northwood Tech email address
- A desktop or laptop computer with internet access
- A smartphone or tablet with the Microsoft Authenticator app installed
- Your student or employee information for identity verification, if prompted
Instructions
Create Your Northwood Tech Password
On your computer:
- Go to https://www.northwoodtech.edu/.
- Click MyCampus.
- Enter your Northwood Tech email address.
- Student email example: jstudent1234@northwoodtech.edu
- Employee email example: joe.employee@northwoodtech.edu
- Click Next.

- Enter your default password.
📝 Note: Your default password is the first two letters of your first name, the first two letters of your last name, and the last four digits of your college ID.
- Click Sign in.

- Enter your current/default password.
- Enter your new password.
💡 Tip: Your new password must be at least 13 characters long.
- Re-enter your new password to confirm it.
- Click Sign in.

- Click Next.

Set up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)
- On your mobile device:
If you haven't already, install the Microsoft Authenticator app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Click Next, once installed.

- On your computer:
Click Next, to begin the Microsoft Authenticator setup.

- On your mobile device:
Open the Microsoft Authenticator app and scan the QR code displayed on your computer.

- On your computer:
Click Next.

- On your computer:
A two-digit number will appear. Remember this number you will need it for the next step.

- On your mobile device:
Enter the two-digit number (from the previous step) into the Microsoft Authenticator app when prompted.
Tap Yes, to approve the sign-in request.

- On your computer:
Click Done to complete the setup.

Troubleshooting
I don't know my Northwood Tech email address
Try the following:
- Check the welcome or onboarding email sent to your personal email address.
- Students can also check their admissions or enrollment communications.
- Employees can check with their supervisor or hiring manager.
- Contact the IT Service Desk if you still cannot locate your Northwood Tech email address.
My default password isn't working
Try the following:
- Verify that you're entering your Northwood Tech email address correctly.
- Student email example: jstudent1234@northwoodtech.edu
- Employee email example: joe.employee@northwoodtech.edu
- Verify that your default password contains:
- The first two letters of your first name
- The first two letters of your last name
- The last four digits of your college ID
- Remember that passwords are case-sensitive.
- Contact the IT Service Desk if the default password continues to be rejected.
I received a "Password doesn't meet requirements" message
Try the following:
- Verify that your new password is at least 13 characters long.
- Make sure the password and confirmation password match.
- Create a new password and try again.
I don't see the QR code for Microsoft Authenticator
Try the following:
- Verify that you've clicked Next after creating your password.
- Refresh the page and try again.
- Sign out and restart the account setup process.
- Try a different supported web browser.
- Open an Incognito or InPrivate window and try again.
Microsoft Authenticator won't scan the QR code
Try the following:
- Verify that you're using the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Allow Microsoft Authenticator to access your device's camera.
- Increase the brightness of your computer screen.
- Make sure the entire QR code is visible on your screen.
- Restart Microsoft Authenticator and try again.
The two-digit number doesn't appear
Try the following:
- Verify that you've selected Next on your computer after scanning the QR code.
- Wait a few seconds for the number prompt to appear.
- Restart the MFA registration process and try again.
I approved the MFA notification, but the setup didn't finish
Try the following:
- Wait a few moments for the setup to finish processing.
- Verify that you entered the correct two-digit number.
- Refresh the browser and sign in again.
- Restart the MFA registration process if necessary.
I replaced or lost my phone
If you no longer have access to the mobile device you used for MFA, your MFA registration must be reset before you can register a new device.
Contact the IT Service Desk for assistance.
I accidentally closed the setup window
Try the following:
- Go to Microsoft My Apps.
- Sign in using your Northwood Tech email address and newly created password.
- Continue the account setup process if prompted.
