Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Set Up Microsoft Authenticator on a New Device

Overview

If you've replaced your phone or changed your phone number, your multi-factor authentication (MFA) registration must be reset before you can use Microsoft Authenticator on your new device.

This article explains how to request an MFA reset and set up Microsoft Authenticator on your new device after the reset has been completed.

Key Information

  • Your MFA registration must be reset by the IT Service Desk before you can register a new device.
  • Install Microsoft Authenticator on your new mobile device before beginning the setup process.
  • If your Northwood Tech account is already listed in Microsoft Authenticator, remove it before attempting to register the account again.
  • A desktop or laptop computer is required to display the QR code during setup.
  • You must have your current Northwood Tech password.
⚠️ Important: Submit a request to the IT Service Desk to have your Microsoft Authenticator registration reset before completing the steps in this article. Do not attempt to register your new device until you have been notified that the reset is complete.
