Overview
This article provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Microsoft Outlook app on an iPad and configuring it with your Northwood Tech account. It covers downloading the app, signing in with your Northwood Tech credentials, and completing any required multi-factor authentication.
Once setup is complete, you will be able to access your Northwood Tech email, calendar, and contacts directly from your iPad.
Prerequisites
- An active Northwood Tech account (student or employee)
- Your Northwood Tech email address and password
- Multi-factor authentication (MFA) set up and accessible
- An iPad with internet access
- Access to the Apple App Store to download Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Authenticator
- iPadOS version supported by the current Outlook app
Before You Begin: Before setting up Outlook, make sure the Microsoft Authenticator app is installed on your iPad. If multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required, you'll use the app to verify your identity during sign-in.
Instructions
Install Microsoft Outlook
- Open the App Store.
- Search for Microsoft Outlook.
- Optional: If you plan to use additional Microsoft 365 apps, you can download the Microsoft 365 Productivity Apps bundle, which downloads multiple Microsoft apps at once.
- Tap Get or Download.
- Wait for the installation to complete.
Add Account
NOTE: If you do not already have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your Apple device, it is best to install it before proceeding. The app is required to complete activation.
- Open Outlook.
- Tap Add Account.

- Enter your Northwood Tech Email address.
- Student: jstudent1234@northwoodtech.edu
- Employee: joe.employee@northwoodtech.edu
Tap Add Account.

- Enter your Northwood Tech Password.
Tap Sign in.

- Tap OK.

- Reopen Outlook.
- Enable Notifications.

- Setup Complete - Your Northwood Tech email account has been added to Outlook. You can now send and receive email, manage your calendar, and access your contacts from your iPad.
Troubleshooting
I can't download Outlook from the App Store
- Verify you're connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data.
- Make sure you're signed in with your Apple ID.
- Check that your iPad is running a supported version of iPadOS.
- Restart the App Store and try again.
I can't sign in to my Northwood Tech account
- Verify you're using your Northwood Tech email address.
- Double-check your password.
- If you've recently changed your password, wait a few minutes and try again.
- If necessary, reset your password.
I never received the MFA prompt
- Open Microsoft Authenticator.
- Verify notifications are enabled.
- Ensure your device has an internet connection.
- If prompted with a two-digit number, enter it in the Authenticator app.
- If the notification still doesn't appear, try selecting Sign in another way (if available) or contact the Service Desk.
Outlook keeps asking me to sign in
- Force close Outlook and reopen it.
- Restart your iPad.
- Remove and re-add your account if necessary.
My email isn't syncing
- Pull down on the Inbox to refresh.
- Verify you're connected to Wi-Fi.
- Check that your mailbox isn't full.
- Make sure your password hasn't changed.
I don't receive notifications
- Go to Settings > Notifications > Outlook.
- Ensure notifications are enabled.
- Open Outlook and verify notifications are enabled within the app.
Outlook is frozen or keeps crashing
- Close the Outlook app and reopen it.
- Restart your iPad.
- Update Outlook from the App Store.
- Install any available iPadOS updates
I replaced my iPad or got a new phone
- Install Outlook and Microsoft Authenticator on the new device.
- Sign in with your Northwood Tech account.
- If you no longer have access to your previous MFA device, contact the Service Desk to have your Microsoft Authenticator registration reset.
