Wi-Fi: Connect an Android Device (Student)

Overview

This article explains how students can connect an Android device to the Northwood_Student wireless network at Northwood Tech campuses.

Key Information

Before connecting your Android device to Northwood_Student:

  • Northwood_Student is the wireless network for Northwood Tech students.
  • You may be prompted to sign in before your device can access the internet.
  • Android devices may display different Wi-Fi settings depending on the device manufacturer and Android version.
  • The steps may vary slightly depending on your Android device and operating system version.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, you'll need:

  • An Android device.
  • An active Northwood Tech student account.
  • Wi-Fi enabled on your device.
  • Your Northwood Tech login credentials, if prompted.

Instructions

Connect to Northwood_Student

  1. Swipe down from the top of your Android device to open the Quick Settings panel.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.

     
  3. Tap Northwood_Student from the list of available networks.

     
  4. Tap Sign in to Wi-Fi or the notification for Northwood_Student at the top of your device.

     
  5. Tap Sign in.
    • If you are not automatically signed in, tap Access Network.

     
  6. Verify that your device is connected to Northwood_Student.
  7. Open a web browser and navigate to a website to test your connection.

Troubleshooting

Northwood_Student does not appear in the list of available networks

Try the following:

  • Verify that Wi-Fi is enabled.
  • Turn Wi-Fi off, then back on.
  • Move to an area with better wireless coverage.
  • Restart your Android device and try again.

My Android device won't connect to Northwood_Student

Try the following:

  • Tap Northwood_Student and try connecting again.
  • If prompted, select Sign in.
  • If the sign-in page doesn't open automatically, look for a Sign in to Wi-Fi notification.
  • Forget the Northwood_Student network and try connecting again.
  • Restart your Android device and try again.

The Wi-Fi sign-in page doesn't open

Try the following:

  • Swipe down from the top of your device and look for a Sign in to Wi-Fi notification.
  • Tap the notification to open the sign-in page.
  • If the notification does not appear, open a web browser and try navigating to a website.
  • Turn Wi-Fi off and back on, then try again.

My Android device is connected to Wi-Fi, but I can't access the internet

Try the following:

  • Open a web browser and try visiting a different website.
  • Verify that your device is connected to Northwood_Student.
  • Disconnect from the network and reconnect.
  • Forget the Northwood_Student network and connect again.
  • Restart your Android device.
