Overview
Software Center allows Northwood Tech employees to install approved software without requiring administrator privileges. This article explains how to access Software Center, search for available software, and install applications on your computer.
Key Information
- Software Center is available on Northwood Tech-managed Windows computers.
- Some applications may already be installed on your computer.
- If you're working remotely, you must be connected to the Northwood Tech VPN to access Software Center.
- If the software you're looking for isn't available, you may need to submit a request to the IT Service Desk.
💡 Tip: Before searching for software to install, check the Installation Status section to see if it is already installed on your computer.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, you'll need:
- A Northwood Tech-managed Windows computer
- Permission to install software through Software Center
- An internet connection
- A connection to the Northwood Tech VPN if working remotely
Instructions
Open Software Center
- Click the Windows button on the taskbar.
- Search for Software Center.
- Click Software Center to open the application.
Install Software
- Search for the software you want to install.
- If you don't see the software, click Installation Status, in the left navigation pane to verify it isn't already installed.
- Click the software you want to install.
- Click Install.
- Wait for the installation to complete.
📝 Note: Some software installations may take several minutes to complete. Keep your computer powered on and connected to the network until the installation finishes.
Troubleshooting
I can't find Software Center
Try the following:
- Verify that you're using a Northwood Tech-managed Windows computer.
- Search for Software Center from the Windows Start menu.
- Restart your computer and try again.
I can't find the software I need
Try the following:
- Check Installation Status to verify the software isn't already installed.
- Refresh the Software Center and search again.
- Connect to the Northwood Tech VPN if you're working remotely.
The software won't install
Try the following:
- Verify that you're connected to the Northwood Tech network or VPN.
- Restart your computer and try the installation again.
- Wait a few minutes and try again if another installation is already in progress.
