Remove a Microsoft Authenticator (MFA) Account

Overview

This article explains how to remove your Northwood Tech account from the Microsoft Authenticator app. Microsoft Authenticator is used for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) to help protect your Northwood Tech account. You may need to remove your MFA account before setting up a new device or after your MFA registration has been reset by the Service Desk.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure:

  • You have access to the mobile device with the Microsoft Authenticator app installed.
  • You are removing only your Northwood Tech account. If you use Microsoft Authenticator for other organizations or personal accounts, those accounts will not be affected.

  1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
  2. Tap your Northwood Technical College account.

  6. Enter your MyCampus Password.
  7. Tap Yes.

Troubleshooting

I don't see my Northwood Tech account

  • Verify you're using the correct Microsoft Authenticator app.
  • You may have gave it a different name when you set it up.  Instead look for the email address ending in @northwoodtech.edu.
  • If your account is not listed, it has likely already been removed.

I can't remove the account

  • Close and reopen the Microsoft Authenticator app, then try again.
  • Restart your mobile device if the option is unavailable or the app becomes unresponsive.

I accidentally removed the wrong account.

  • You'll need to sign in to that account again and complete its Microsoft Authenticator setup process.
  • If you accidentally removed your Northwood Tech account, follow the Set Up Microsoft Authenticator article to register it again.

I'm setting up a new phone

  • If the Service Desk has already reset your Microsoft Authenticator registration, you can proceed with the Set Up Microsoft Authenticator article.
  • If you haven't requested a reset yet, submit a Service Desk ticket before attempting to register your new device.

I'm still unable to complete the setup

  • Submit a Service Desk ticket for assistance.
  • Include any error messages or screenshots to help the Service Desk troubleshoot the issue more quickly.
