Panopto: Record and Submit a Video in Blackboard

Overview

Panopto allows students to record videos and submit them directly within Blackboard assignments. This article explains how to record a video using Panopto Capture and attach an existing or newly recorded video to a Blackboard assignment.

Key Information

• Panopto is accessed directly through Blackboard using the Panopto Student Submission Tool.
• You can either upload an existing video or record a new video from within Blackboard.
• A microphone and webcam are recommended for video submissions.
• Videos are stored in the course's Panopto Assignments folder.

Prerequisites

• An active Northwood Tech Blackboard account.
• Access to Panopto through Blackboard.
• A supported web browser and internet connection.
• A microphone and webcam for recording video submissions.
• Access to the appropriate Panopto course or assignment folder.

Instructions

Attach an Existing Panopto Video

1. Navigate to the Blackboard assignment where you want to submit your video.
2. Click Insert Content.
3. Select Content Market.
4. Select Panopto Student Submission Tool.
5. Navigate to the folder in Panopto where your video is saved.
6. Select the video you want to attach.
7. Click Insert.
8. Enter or confirm the video title.
9. Click Insert.
10. Add any additional assignment content below the video, if needed.
11. Click Submit.

Record a New Video in Panopto

1. Navigate to the Blackboard assignment where you want to submit your video.
2. Click Insert Content.
3. Select Content Market.
4. Select Panopto Student Submission Tool.
5. Verify that the course's Panopto Assignments folder opens.
6. Select the Record tab.
7. Click Launch Capture.

Use Panopto Capture

1. Select your preferred audio (microphone) source.
2. Select your preferred video (webcam) source.
3. Select your preferred screen-sharing options.
4. Click the red circle to start recording.
5. When you are finished, click the red square to stop recording.
6. Save your recording.
7. Follow the prompts to insert the video into your Blackboard assignment.
8. Click Submit to complete your assignment submission.

Troubleshooting

My microphone or webcam is not working

Try the following:

• Verify that your microphone and webcam are connected and enabled.
• Confirm that your browser has permission to access your camera and microphone.
• Refresh the page and relaunch Panopto Capture.
• Try using a different supported browser.

I can't find my Panopto video

Try the following:

• Verify that you are in the correct course's Panopto Assignments folder.
• Refresh the page and reopen the Panopto Student Submission Tool.
• Confirm that your recording has finished processing.

My video won't upload or submit

Try the following:

• Verify that you have a stable internet connection.
• Refresh Blackboard and try again.
• Wait a few minutes for the video to finish processing before submitting.
