Overview
Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure web browser that helps protect the integrity of online exams by restricting access to other applications, websites, and browser features while an assessment is in progress.
Some Northwood Tech instructors require Respondus LockDown Browser for quizzes and exams in Blackboard. This article explains how to download and install Respondus LockDown Browser on a supported Windows or macOS computer.
Key Information
- Respondus LockDown Browser is required only for courses or assessments where your instructor has enabled it.
- You must install the Student Edition of Respondus LockDown Browser.
- Respondus LockDown Browser replaces your normal web browser during an exam.
- Chromebooks are not supported.
- Install Respondus LockDown Browser before your scheduled exam to ensure you're ready to begin your assessment.
💡 Tip: Install Respondus LockDown Browser before your exam date to ensure there is enough time to resolve any installation or compatibility issues.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, you'll need:
- A Windows or macOS computer
- An internet connection
- Access to the Respondus LockDown Browser download page
- Permission to install software on your computer
Instructions
Download and Install Respondus LockDown Browser
- Click the following link to open the Respondus LockDown Browser download page:
- Click Download.
- Open the downloaded installation file.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
- Once the installation is complete, open Respondus LockDown Browser to verify that it installed successfully.
Troubleshooting
The download won't start
Try the following:
- Verify that you have an internet connection.
- Try a different supported web browser.
- Disable pop-up blockers if prompted.
I can't install Respondus LockDown Browser
Try the following:
- Verify that you're using a supported Windows or macOS computer.
- Confirm that you have permission to install software on your device.
- Restart your computer and try the installation again.
I'm using a Chromebook
Try the following:
- Verify with your instructor whether an alternative testing option is available.
- Use a supported Windows or macOS computer to complete LockDown Browser-enabled exams.
📝 Note: Chromebooks are not supported for this version of Respondus LockDown Browser.
Blackboard doesn't open my exam in LockDown Browser
Try the following:
- Verify that Respondus LockDown Browser is installed.
- Close all browser windows and launch the exam again.
- Restart your computer if prompted.
- Verify that your instructor has enabled Respondus LockDown Browser for the assessment.
