Overview
Accessing Northwood Tech systems from certain locations may require additional security review or authorization. Geographic restrictions, security controls, and other protections may affect your ability to access certain college systems or services based on your travel destination.
Geographic restrictions and security controls may apply based on your travel destination, including certain U.S. territories and locations outside the United States.
If you know you will be traveling internationally or to another location where geographic access restrictions may apply, request access before leaving whenever possible. This gives the IT team an opportunity to review your request and address potential access issues before they interrupt your work or studies.
Key Information
- International access may be subject to additional security requirements or geographic restrictions.
- Access that works normally in the United States may not work the same way from another country.
- Submit an International Travel & Access request before leaving the United States whenever possible.
- Provide your destination country, travel dates, and the Northwood Tech systems or services you expect to access.
- Do not wait until you are outside the United States to request access if you know you will need it.
- If you are already outside the United States and cannot access a Northwood Tech service, submit an access request and provide as much information about the issue as possible.
- International access requirements may vary depending on the country, system, service, or type of access needed.
📝 Note: International access requirements may apply to travel destinations that are considered U.S. territories or other locations where access to Northwood Tech systems is subject to additional security controls. If you are unsure whether your destination requires an International Travel & Access request, submit a request before traveling.

Best Practices for International Travel
Plan Ahead
Don't wait until you arrive at your destination to determine whether you can access the systems you need.
Before traveling:
- Identify the Northwood Tech systems and applications you will need.
- Submit an International Travel & Access request.
- Verify that your Northwood Tech account is active.
- Make sure you know your Northwood Tech username and password.
- Make sure your MFA verification method is available while traveling.
- Consider how you will access MFA if you will not have your normal cellular service.
Test Your Access
If possible, test the systems and services you expect to use before leaving the United States.
For example, make sure you can access:
- MyCampus
- Microsoft 365
- Email
- Teams
- OneDrive
- Other Northwood Tech applications required for your work or coursework
💡 Tip: If you discover an access problem while you are still in the United States, it is much easier to address the issue before your trip than after you arrive at your destination.
Protect Your Account While Traveling
International travel can increase the risk of account and data exposure, particularly when using unfamiliar networks or devices.
- Avoid accessing Northwood Tech systems from public or shared computers whenever possible.
- Use a trusted and secure internet connection.
- Do not share your Northwood Tech password.
- Do not approve unexpected MFA requests.
- Keep your devices updated.
- Lock your device when you are not using it.
- Be cautious when connecting to unfamiliar Wi-Fi networks.
- Do not save your Northwood Tech password in a public or shared computer.
