Cengage SAM: Find Your Institution Key and Course Information

Overview

Some Northwood Tech courses use Cengage SAM for assignments, projects, and assessments. When activating your Cengage SAM subscription, you may be asked to enter an Institution Key, Course Number, and Section Number.

This article explains where to locate this information before registering for your course.

Key Information

  • Your Institution Key, Course Number, and Section Number are provided by your instructor.
  • This information is available in your Blackboard course.
  • You must use the information provided by your instructor to ensure you enroll in the correct Cengage SAM course and section.
  • Blackboard courses are typically available two weeks before the start of the academic term.
💡 Tip: Wait until your Blackboard course becomes available before looking for your Cengage SAM enrollment information. Most courses are published approximately two weeks before the start of the term.

Instructions

Find Your Institution Key

  1. Sign in to Blackboard.
  2. Open the course that requires Cengage SAM.
  3. Locate the course materials provided by your instructor.
  4. Find the following information:
    • Institution Key
    • Course Number
    • Section Number
  5. Use this information when prompted during your Cengage SAM registration.

Troubleshooting

I can't find my Institution Key

Try the following:

  • Verify that you opened the correct Blackboard course.
  • Check the course announcements, syllabus, or getting started materials.
  • Review any instructions provided by your instructor.

My Blackboard course isn't available

Try the following:

  • Verify that the academic term has not yet begun.
  • Blackboard courses are typically available approximately two weeks before the start of the term.
  • If your course should already be available, contact your instructor.

My Institution Key doesn't work

Try the following:

  • Verify that you entered the Institution Key exactly as provided.
  • Confirm that you are using the Course Number and Section Number for your specific class.
  • Contact your instructor if you believe the information is incorrect.
