Troubleshooting

I don't have access to the full Microsoft 365 desktop applications

Microsoft 365 desktop applications are available to currently enrolled students and full-time employees.

If you are not eligible for the full desktop version:

  • Use the online version of Microsoft 365 through your Northwood Tech account.
  • If you need access to the full desktop applications, you can check out a Northwood Tech laptop.
  • If you believe you should have access but are unable to install Microsoft 365, contact the IT Service Desk to verify your account status.
💡 Tip: If you only need to create or edit documents, spreadsheets, or presentations, the online versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint may meet your needs without installing Microsoft 365.

I don't see the Install apps button

Try the following:

  • Verify you're signed in with your Northwood Tech email address and MyCampus password.
  • Confirm that you selected Microsoft 365 from the Microsoft App Launcher.
  • If Install apps is still unavailable, your account may not be licensed for Microsoft 365 or your access may not yet be active.

The download didn't start

Try the following:

  • Check your browser's Downloads folder or download history.
  • Verify the download wasn't blocked or is waiting for approval.
  • Make sure your browser isn't blocking downloads or pop-ups.
  • Try downloading the installer again.
  • Try using a different supported web browser.

OfficeSetup.exe won't open

Try the following:

  • Locate OfficeSetup.exe in your Downloads folder.
  • Double-click the file to start the installation.
  • If Windows displays a security warning, select Run if you trust the file.
  • If the file still won't open, delete the downloaded file and download it again.
  • Restart your computer and try the installation again.

The installation is taking a long time or appears stuck

Try the following:

  • Wait several minutes to see if the installation resumes.
  • Verify you have a stable internet connection.
  • Close unnecessary applications.
  • If the installation remains unresponsive for an extended period, restart your computer and begin the installation again.

I'm prompted for administrator credentials

Some computers require administrator permissions to install software.

  • If you're using a Northwood Tech-managed device, contact the IT Service Desk for assistance.
  • If you're using a personal computer, sign in with an administrator account or contact the device owner for assistance.

I can't sign in after installation

Try the following:

  • Verify you're signing in with your Northwood Tech email address, not a personal Microsoft account.
  • Make sure you're using your current MyCampus password.
  • If you've recently changed your password, wait a few minutes and try again.
  • Reset your password if necessary.

I've reached my five-device installation limit

Microsoft 365 allows installation on up to five devices per user account.

Try the following:

  • Sign in to your Microsoft account and remove a device you no longer use.
  • After removing a device, try the installation again.
  • Contact the IT Service Desk if you need assistance managing your devices.

I already have an older version of Microsoft Office installed

Microsoft 365 can often be installed alongside older versions of Office, but having multiple versions installed may cause unexpected behavior.

For the best experience:

  1. Uninstall the older version of Microsoft Office.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Begin the Microsoft 365 installation again.

Microsoft Access isn't available on my Mac

Microsoft Access is only available for Windows computers.

If you need to use Microsoft Access, install Microsoft 365 on a Windows PC.

Mac users can still install and use other Microsoft 365 applications, including:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • Outlook
  • OneNote
